Q

Q is for Quilt.

No one in my family ever made a quilt as far as I know. They were crocheters, knitters and cross stitchers, but no quilters.

A couple of people I work with love to quilt and they make some beautiful ones. They offered to teach me but I never had much patience for sewing.

I do have a bedspread that may quality as a quilt.

No one in our family made it though. I think my mom bought it for us when we moved into this house.

I  did win this little quilted table runner a few years ago.

It has a pretty pattern on the reverse side, too. I keep it on my grandmothers old trundle sewing machine.

The most beautiful quilt I've ever seen, however, was the one we saw that won all sorts of ribbons at the Great Lakes State Fair a few years ago.

The picture does not show how intricate and beautiful this quilt was!

  1. I too love quilts, but have never made one. I don't think they made quilts in Sweden in the old days. My grandmother could sew and do many other things too, but never a quilt. I know she would have made them if it had been something she knew about.

  3. My grandmother, and her mother before her were quilters. In fact, all of my aunts were also. I have one that my great great grandmother made back in the early to middle l800's. I think it was on my blog along time ago. But, I keep it now in plastic with a note on it.

Back then, they didn't have all those fancy patterns and were made for warmth; however, I still thought they were beautiful. I tried my hand at quilting when I was 12, and Big Mama ended up finishing it for me. I have no clue what happened to it though.

    Yours is very pretty, buddy!

  4. I read another post using Quilt as the Q word, and it made me think of the book "How to Make an American Quilt." For me quilts are rhetorical. BTW, I love the name of your blog. via A to Z Challenge

  5. I love that last quilt. My great, my grandma and my Mother used to sit at the quilt frame and sew--it was all done by hand back in the day. I liked to sit under the frame and listen to them talk. My sister and my daughter's Karen and Jen are quilters--I never wanted to even try.
