More Estate Sale Stuff and a Random Photo Purge
In the same condo that had the cross stitching there were workshops in the basement and in the garage.
It was very organized!
In the garage there was all sorts of woodworking tools and equipment. I didn't take any pictures because there were too many people in there.
I actually felt really bad for the people that had lived in this condo. I heard a family member tell someone that they had to be put in a nursing home. It really looked like they enjoyed many hobbies and had had a rich, full life.
I'm sure that is true for a lot of the estate sales I go to, but this particular one was so obvious in every room!
In other news, here's a couple random photos from my phone.
This is the way some guy parked his big truck outside of my work the other day. I watched him park and thought he was going to keep going and come through the glass! As it was, he kept one tire on the sidewalk and look how close he is to the lamppost!
It's a sign of the times when the little container for sugar packets contains hand sanitizing wipes instead!
Another sign of the times, kids jumping in leave piles!
Until the next time stay safe and well my friends!

Friday Fun
The last few Fridays I have gone to a few estate sales. I usually plan them like this:
I went to two of them on that list, one was a little farther than I wanted to go. Both of these sales were in condos and I won't bore you with the details of the house, just some of the things I saw.

They were all very intricate and gorgeous! I could have bought every one of them!
One had a bunch of sets of dishes.
I thought this sign was cute!
There was a huge bookcase filled with cookbooks, including this collection of Southern Living Annual Recipes from 1990 to 2012.
There is a lot more things to show you, but I'll save that for another post.
I ended up only buying one thing.
Me: There is no price on this.
Him: Hmmmm let's see, 2 dollars
Me: How about one dollar?
Him: Ok. You beat me down!
LOL! I love a good bargain! I have the same bowl in a 7-cup version, and I really like it. This one is the perfect size for a small salad or to mix a tuna or chicken salad.
In other news: We had the boys spend the night last week for the first time in a while.

Scarecrows and Stella
Every October in downtown Plymouth the local businesses create scarecrows that line the park.
Like this one from an electrical service company.
I thought this one was pretty.
I liked this one. Remember Cousin It from the Addams Family?
I thought this one from a local meat company was kind of yuck!
This one was created by Janisse, my coworker and local artist.
Now on to the story of Stella.
Stella was a service dog and led a remarkable life. She worked tirelessly at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor and other hospitals. Through her birthday parties we raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Humane Society of Huron Valley, Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit, the Dogtopia Foundation, Plymouth District Library, and the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce to name a few. She was well loved by children of all ages and their folks and grandparents.
She was a big, beautiful Burnese Mountain Dog. We've seen her in the restaurant a couple times when we ate there. Stella passed away on September 1st at 12 years old.
Here is an article about her in the local Plymouth Rock Magazine.
Hopefully you can click on the picture to make it big enough to read.
Janisse painted this picture of Stella and this tribute was part of the scarecrow display in the park.
So sweet and such a nice dog.
Until the next time stay safe and well my friends!

Estate Sale Potpourri
Last Friday I went to a bunch of Estate Sales.
I won't bore you with all the details and none of the houses were really remarkable, so I'll just show you a few things I thought were interesting.
They were selling this preserved wedding dress for $50. Not sure what year it was from, but my guess is probably in the early 70's.
One of the houses had several closets filled with clothes like these two suites above. For $20 you could get as many clothes as you could cram in a brown grocery sized bag. I passed.
One had a table filled with these teacup sets. I used to have a bunch of them a long time ago and displayed them on a shelf that my dad made for me. I still have the shelf but the teacup sets are long gone!
I was something I've never seen before. An automatic windchime. I didn't buy it because I don't need it and didn't want to spend $8 on it. However, I changed my mind and went back to the sale the next day when everything was 50% off. I thought the boys would get a kick out of it and it would only be $4. But it was gone! Oh well!
I did end up buying this glass though for $1. I just thought it was pretty.
Next post I'll tell you about some scarecrows and a tribute to a famous Plymouth dog.
Until then stay safe and well my friends!

Birds of Prey and Such
Last week I saw an advertisement for something called a Hawk Fest that was being held at Lake Erie Metropark about 45 minutes away from us.
I thought it sounded interesting so on Saturday, I packed us a picnic lunch and we headed off.
It was being sponsored by the Michigan Hawking Club. Who knew there was a Hawking Club? Here's what I took from their website:
The Michigan Hawking Club is a non-political, non-profit organization whose purpose is preservation of the sport of falconry and conservation of birds of prey.
The goals of the MHC are…
- To promote recognition of falconry as a legal field sport and support the practice of falconry to the highest standards.
- To provide communication among, and to disseminate relevant information to, club members.
- To promote scientific study of raptorial species, their care, welfare, and training.
- To promote conservation of birds of prey and an appreciation for their value in nature and in wildlife conservation programs.
- To establish traditions which will aid, perpetuate, and further the welfare of falconry, and the raptors it employs.
Here is a description of the sport of falconry.
Falconry is the sport of hunting wild game in its natural state with a trained bird of prey (raptor).
Falconry in various forms has existed for thousands of years and has been practiced by many cultures around the world. It is believed to have started somewhere in Central Asia and has spread from there.
The care, training, and hunting with a raptor cannot be considered the same as keeping a pet or any other domestic animal. This sport is extremely demanding, time consuming, and could even be described as a lifestyle. It requires A great deal of knowledge, skill, and commitment in order to be successful.
So, think what you may about this sport. I suppose you could be against trapping them to use for something like this and I'm not sure exactly what I think about it. From seeing these birds and listening to the owners though I can see they are well taken care of.
We just went there to see some of them up close!

This is a red tail hawk. We see enough of those flying around here and sitting in trees but to see one up close was pretty cool! You can tell how big he is, too, and look at his fierce looking face! The keeper said his diet consists of mostly squirrels and when they dive, they only get their prey 20% of the time. However, I can personally attest to them loving doves, too, considering the pile of dove feathers we occasionally find on our lawn!
The biggest bird there was this Great horned owl. He was magnificent! The keeper said their diet mainly consists of rabbits and they catch their prey 90% of the time! One time we heard one hooting in the pine tree outside our front door, but by the time Rich got a flashlight he had gone to a tree across the street!
Levi was able to start Pre-K a little early instead of waiting until he turns 4 on the 27th. Shauna has time for herself now Monday-Thursday from 12-3!
