Independence Day and Other Stuff

We spend 4th of July with Shauna, Brad, the boys and their other grandparents. It was hot but fun! I enjoyed my annual burn to a crisp hot dog!

Here they are watching the boy next door drive his remote control car. They looked so cute in their matching outfits!

There were more than the usual private fireworks all over this time. Probably due to the pandemic lockdown and the fact that the annual fireworks and festivals in all the cities were cancelled this year. It was kind of nice to sit on our deck and watch the show all around.

I've been doing some sewing. Mostly I have been altering some of my clothes, turning a few pairs of jeans into shorts and capri length pants for the summer. I've also made a few masks for me and Rich

The patterned one came from left over material I had from a quilt I had made for Shauna when she was pregnant with Maxwell. The dark blue one is made from an old pillow case. The material is soft and comfortable.

I don't know how much protection they offer (other than from dirty looks from people for not wearing a mask! ) but they are comfortable and washable. I would make more but I ran out of elastic and there is none to be found anywhere!

I meant to show you these in the last post.

This is a New England Style Hot Dog Roll that we brought home from our visit with Chris.  They are basically like a piece of bread folded in half! You can't find them anywhere around here! I looked on Amazon and they want about $10 for a pack!

I changed the picture on my header to a sunset from Grand Haven MI I took a few years ago. They were doing some construction on the pier and you can see the backhoe to the right of the picture.  Didn't take away from the beauty, though! I always try to catch at least one sunset on Lake Michigan every year.

Tomorrow we are going to spend the night at Four Winds Resort and Casino in New Buffalo, MI which is right on Lake Michigan. I'm hoping to catch another spectacular sunset to replace this header picture with!

Until the next time!

  1. Beautiful. I for one, will never ever give someone dirty looks for either wearing a mask or not. It is not any of my business...I don't wear one due to medical reasons, and I have gotten my fair share of nasty looks and some dirty language. ANYWAYS--Hope you have a wonderful time at the casino. smiles

  2. That's an interesting bun. Looks good. I like my hot dogs burned, crisp on the hotside. Not to a crisp but almost.

  3. Your header is so beautiful! And the pics of the kids are just adorable. Your masks are so pretty! I just bought a package of these kind of hot dog buns last week! Pepperidge Farm, I think.

  4. The boys look adorable in their matching outfits.
I've seen those hot dog buns around here but not in a long time.
If you can't find elastic for your masks you can cut a t-shirt into strips about 1" wide. Then just stretch so the edges will curl in on themselves and you can use that in place of elastic. I like it better than the elastic as it's much easier on the ears.

  5. Hi Jeanette. It's my first time visiting and the beautiful header caught my eye immediately! Your grandson's are adorable looking beyond the fence. Very patriotic. Your masks are pretty.. they are mandatory here in Maryland and it still looks so weird to see everyone all covered up.
I enjoyed a single hot dog yesterday too and it was well worth the wait!! Those buns look good.
Thanks for the visit.. now I know where to find you.

  6. What a pretty sunset! I had to go back and look for the backhoe because I didn't see it the first time I looked at the picture. The sunset was just too gorgeous! I like that hot dog roll! Too bad it is so expensive to purchase! Your night at the casino sounds like a fun one. Enjoy!!!!

Think I prefer the regular rolls. Looks like too much bread! :)

  8. How very sweet to spend the fourth with your family.
Funny about the $$ hot dog buns, but it does look pretty special.
I DO love a good sunset too.

That is a weird hotdog bun, I've never seen anything like them.

  11. The hot dog bun caught my interest. I go to Maine quite often and we use them not only for hot dogs but also for lobster and crab rolls. And then there's shrimp and clam rolls. Especially in the summertime.💖

  12. Hi Jeannette! Thanks for stopping by my blog and for wishing my son-in-law a happy birthday! That hot dog looks delicious in that New England-style roll. Now I've just got to try one of those. I like my hot dog very well done too! With lots of mustard and pickle relish. We're baking down here in South Carolina. It's the dog days. Cute masks! I won't wear one and dirty looks are welcome. Haahaaha xoxo
