Time For Another Project

I got this garden steppingstone a long, long time ago, probably 30 years.

First it sat in the front flower bed of our first house, then in the backyard landscaping in our second house and then in the front of our current house.

As it was one of my to-do projects, I brought it in the house last week and Rich scrubbed it off with a scrub brush. It was pretty dirty and stained.

First, I did a whitewash to lighten it up and cover the stains, then went over it with a brown just to make it more the color of a stone.

I had an idea how I wanted to paint it and took some inspiration from this picture I found on the internet.

I like the colors and I wanted to be bright and colorful.

So far so good but the butterflies need more definition.

Nice but I wanted to make it more colorful!

So, I added some flowers. I can follow a pattern but I'm no artist. The flowers look a little elementary but at least it's colorful!

Also, that little spot on the left is supposed to be a bee!

I have to say I really enjoyed doing this and also restoring the little deer. I see a lot of garden stuff and estate sales and will be looking for something else to restore when I go to them now!

Any excuse to go to an estate sale!

See you the next time!

Estate Sale #4

I'm going to have to start numbering these Estate Sale posts because I suspect there is going to be a lot more of them!

I know I said that my next post will be another project I'm working on but I'm not done with it yet!

Last Friday Marie and I went to an estate sale at this house.

I couldn't find a listing for it but according to Zillow its valued at over $800,000! Honestly, the price of houses these days is ridiculous! Granted, this one was in a golf course subdivision but jeez!

Who can afford these kinds of houses is what I want to know!

Anyway, it was beautiful inside.

This was the kitchen.

I loved the big windows over the sink. Lots of natural light.

There was 5 bedrooms but not of them were anything to write about.

The basement was another story.

It was beautifully finished as most of the basements in these kinds of houses are. This one had a movie viewing room with about 6 recliners and a big huge screen in front of them. You can sort of see them in the picture on top.

The bar area was really nice, too. Plus big windows along one wall.

Upstairs had several of these giant plants.

I mean, look how huge that thing is! I forgot to look at the price though!

Here's a few things I saw that I liked.

This bowl.

Rachel Ray used to have a similar one her cooking show that she would throw scraps in when she was cutting veggies and stuff. $20

This set of mixing bowls.

I really liked that there was a spout on them for easy pouring. If I didn't already have at least 6 mixing bowls I would have bought them. $25

This desk.

I love me some mirrored furniture and this desk was beautiful! I loved it! $125

A few other interesting things.

Three fancy little tray tables or something. Not exactly sure what they were for. $15 each.

A portable ice cube maker. $150

Mardi Gras masks and a table full of Barbie dolls!

And of course, a table full of jewelry!

There was several closets full of really cute dresses and jackets, all in a size 00 or petite XS!

Marie bought a little Willowtree trinket box for her granddaughter.

I didn't buy anything for a change!

Ok next post I promise will be the project I have been working on!

See you then!

Estate Sale (Here We Go)

It's the beginning of Estate Sale season and I just happened upon this one that was pretty close to my house.

I couldn't find a real estate listing so maybe they haven't listed it yet or maybe someone in the family is taking it over. It was valued at $435,000.

It was pretty unremarkable inside.

There was a table full of jewelry. I did not buy any jewelry this time.

There was these antique glasses for $100

Pass! I did like this set of gold-plated flatware.

Pretty but not for me!

This tea set was nice if roosters are your thing!

I see a lot of these at estate sales these days.

They are so popular right now. They were asking $125 for this one.

I have to say that at all the estate sales I go to I have never seen a basement so full of stuff like this one was!

A few interesting things down there.

This rectangular glass tray had a bunch of little cups with legs in it. I have no idea what would be used for. Someone said it was a sushi plate and the cups were for the different sauces but I've never seen anything like it.

I thought these cat figurines were interesting.

And this doll was a little creepy!

I liked this sewing box. I have one similar to it but smaller.

It was loaded with sewing stuff, too!

Tempting but not for $150!

Here's what I did buy.

This Starbucks mug even though it's a Christmas mug and I don't have room for it in my cupboard. I liked that it's tall and sturdy feeling.

This big jar of Legos! Can't have too many of them!

And this bag of Christmas bows!

I knew it wouldn't take long to find more bows, and now I can finish my Christmas wreath!

Total spent: $12 but only because the Legos are expensive! Even at estate sales!

I have another project I'm working on and will tell you about it on my next post! And of course another Estate Sale after that!

See you then!

Another Project Off the List

Back in the Fall I helped my sister-in-law get her mom's house ready for an estate sale. She gave me these little fawns that her mom had kept in her garden.

I put then in front of our house and there they stayed until last week when I decided to finally paint them. I brought them in and scrubbed them off.

With the help of a bunch of pictures of fawns on the internet I was able to match the color and markings as close as possible.

Here they are all done!

I think I got the markings pretty authentic.

I even painted their eyeballs with clear nail polish to give them some shine!

All I have left to do is spray them with protective sealant and they can go back outside.

Last week we managed to get to an Estate Sale at this house.

I didn't take any pictures of the inside because there were too many people around. I wish I had though because it was beautiful! I loved it! It was a 3 bedroom 2 bath with a finished basement. When we looked it up on Realtor.com it was for sale for $620, 000! Real estate is insane these days!

In other news. Shauna and Brad took the boys to Monster Jam last Sunday. They are both crazy for monster trucks and got to go down into the "pit" to get up close and personal with some of the trucks!

Levi informed me that was Megalodon!

That's pretty much it for me right now.

See you the next time!

One Project Done (Almost)

Remember when I said I had a lot of projects that I wanted to get done this year? Well, one of them was a Christmas wreath!

I realize it's not exactly Christmas craft time, but I just needed to get this out of the way before I could move on to other things!

I had a box full of Christmas bows and I saw a wreath made out of them on Pinterest so I figured that would be a good way to use them!

First, I sorted them out by color and pattern.

The I wrapped a wire frame with red ribbon. I like using the wire frames because they sit flat against the door better.

Here's what it looks like so far. I definitely need more bows! I scrounged around the house looking for more but did not find any. I'm going to pack this away and finish it when the dollar store has their Christmas stuff back!

But we're not going to rush that time by!

Unless I come across some at an estate sale which is entirely possible!

And I'll leave you with encouraging words: The Spring Equinox is only 17 days away!

Let's hope the weather cooperates with the calendar!

See you the next time!

February Photo A Day #28

Here we are at the final February Photo A Day post! What better way to end it than with a Estate Sale! They are rare this time of year, so I was glad to see the sign for this one!

And bonus, you get a bunch of pictures instead of just one!

This is the house. I didn't take a lot of pictures of the inside. It needed much updating! Whoever buys this house has a lot of work to do! I did see some interesting things though.

I really liked the two iron pieces on this fireplace. I have nowhere in my house to put them so I didn't buy them.

I thought this table was cute for an entryway. It was marked $60.

They were asking $150 for this antique bike. Pass!

And $300 for this old treadle sewing machine. It's exactly like mine from my grandmother!

I thought this mural was pretty on the stairs to the basement.

More golf clubs!

Here's the only thing I bought! These tablecloth weights for $1. They will come in handy when Rich and I go metal detecting and have a picnic at the park!

Well, thanks for coming along with me this month! I have to admit I struggled a bit keeping up this time. Probably because things are pretty uneventful around here right now! Hope you enjoyed it anyway!

See you the next time!
