Random Things I Bought from Estate Sales

When I was younger and more energetic, I used to frequent garage sales, estate sales, rummage sales and thrift stores as often as I could. I would bribe the kids to go with me by giving them a couple dollars and letting them buy anything they wanted!

Over the years I accumulated a lot of useless stuff, some of which I still have so I thought I would show you a few things.

These two cat figurines. I thought I would become a cat figurine collector but thankfully that never happened.

Note about the green one on the right: It's pretty heavy solid glass and in our previous house I had it sitting on a shelf in the half bath. One day it got knocked off into the sink and broke a big hole in it! The sink, not the cat figurine! Rich was not too happy when he had to replace the sink!

This apple paperweight. It just caught my eye and I still like it.

This basket that sits empty in the spare bedroom.

This framed mirror which also is in the spare bedroom.

This glass vase. I have no idea what to do with it. I should just get rid of it because I have tons of other vases!

This basket that Rich uses for his charging cords and other miscellaneous stuff.

These two candle holders.

I originally saw those at a Partylite party. I liked them because they are so versatile. They can be used three ways:  Like they are shown, take the top part off and it's a pedestal candle holder or you can turn them upside down for a candlestick holder.  But I was too cheap to pay Partylite prices! Imagine my delight when I found them at an estate sale years later, brand new in the box for a few dollars!

This pretty candle holder sits on the windowsill in my kitchen and holds miscellaneous little things.

This copper candy dish.

I used to collect copper pieces a long time ago and had them displayed on a shelf with greenery in my kitchen. I had a bunch of different pieces, and this candy dish is the only one I have left.

This pretty frame that holds the last picture of my mom and dad together.

It was taken at a wedding, and my mom passed away about 6 weeks later.

I've become much more selective in what I purchase now and will only buy something if I can actually use it.

I'm sure there is more stuff but that was all I could find at the spur of the moment.

I'll be back soon with another photo dump!

Until then take care and thanks for stopping by!

  1. Yes, yes, YES, my friend. I hear everything you're saying here....all those treasures that we've found, over the years, that we still have a heart for but don't need. I don't know what came over me a few years ago but I started purging & I haven't stopped since. My whole attitude changed about "stuff" and I never thought that would ever happen. I love all your treasures though & enjoyed reading the story behind them. I especially love that beautiful picture of your Mom & Dad. Love, Andrea xoxo

  2. What a lovely photo of your mom and dad, I loved seeing them! A funny story about the sink! I know you can laugh about it now, but it was not funny at the time. I think my favorites are the copper bowl and the round basket with the handle.

  10. Love your things...I'm busy clearing out mine. Just too much clutter that no one besides me, wants. What can I do with those things that were my mothers? Grandmothers? Hard decisions ahead...

  11. Those things are all cute and mostly useful! You cannot have too many baskets IMO but vases seem to collect and how often do you actually NEED one? Hahahaa! The green glass cat breaking the sink ... that's funny. And I like the apple paperweight too but then I am partial to paperweights! xoxo
