Mis. This - That

Not a whole lot going on right now.

I'm still on track to leave my job at the end of this month. I'm hoping they will keep me on as a floater where I would work only when I don't have anything else to do and they need me to cover for someone. We'll see.

Here's my peace lily last week when I neglected to water it for a week or so.

And the next day after I gave it a nice big drink! So dramatic!

Last week Rich and I volunteered at church for the food drive. People were to leave food behind their cars during the service and volunteers drove around and picked up the boxes and bags. They did it for two weekends in a row, 6 services total!

We worked at the trucks sorting food and packing it into boxes, labeling them and putting them on the truck. The amount of food collected was crazy and that was only for one service! I personally must have packed up 10 boxes of peanut butter, pancake mix, granola bars, macaroni and cheese, canned goods, you name it!  And there were about 20 people doing the same thing.

They collected enough food to supply the local Salvation Army and several other local kitchens and food pantries!

Here's a view of the back of the church taken from where the trucks were parked.

Yep, it's big!

We took a walk on a new to us trail by our house.

There was a bridge crossing a small stream where someone left peanuts for the squirrels.

And this squirrel was not happy that we were standing there by the peanuts he was trying to get!

Fun fact: Did you know that squirrels bury so many nuts they forget about the they are responsible for millions of trees that grow everywhere?

The new Meijer by our house opened last Wednesday.

They were giving away a reusable shopping bag filled with samples and coupons to the first 200 customers that came in the morning. The store opened at 6am and I wasn't there but I read on the local FB Page that someone drove by at 5:15 am and there was a line going around the building!

Not me! I don't do lines if I can help it. We went there at about 11:30 and it was still crowded but not crazy.

It's a beautiful store and I am thrilled to have my favorite store so close to us!

That's all I have for now. We are enjoying out bible study immensely and have met so many wonderful people.

So thankful for everything in my life right now!

Until the next time take care and thanks for reading!

  1. Hooray for a new Meijer!
I didn't know you were going to be done at your job. Congrats! I do hope they'll let you do on call.
What a gorgeous place to walk!

    1. That Meijer was a much needed store in this area!

  2. I pull up multiple dozens of oak tree sprouts each year, evidence that the squirrels had buried them.

  3. I have a peace lily from my mom's funeral and it does the same thing. I pour about a half cup of water into the bottom of the pot when I go on vacation. That's wonderful that your church collected so much food.

  4. I have heard of this store, and wish we had one around here. You must belong to a huge church! What is the membership?

    1. I don't know the exact membership, but I heard someone say it's around 20,000! You would love a Meijer if you had one by you!

  5. I’m so glad your Peace Lily perked up with a good drink of water! As you said, “So dramatic!”

I did not know the “Fun Fact” about squirrels and the nuts. Very interesting!! The squirrels around here are suicidal — they run in front of our bicycle tires and often wait until the very last moment to run away. They must be terribly near-sighted!!

  6. Wow your church is HUGE. It is amazing what a little water can do to a drooping plant!! Yes, I have heard that about squirrels. We don't have any of those stores around here.

  7. How awesome that they collected so much food. Your plant looks so healthy after it got it's drink
There is no way I would stand in line like that. Seems crazy to be there that early and stand around waiting just so you can be one of the first 200

  8. That is so awesome of your church to donate and collect that much food for the community. Squirrels have been going crazy the last month or two burying all of their treasures in our back yard. At any given time, I've noticed four or five out just digging away. It is keeping Binx entertained. Have a great weekend.

  9. Mercy, they'd have to be giving away Johnny Depp's cell phone number to make me stand in line, hahaha! Ain't gonna happen. That's great about the food drive. And I'm like you ... I do not do house plants because if they cross my threshold, their death is imminent, hahaha! Happy weekend to you and Rich! xoxo 🏴‍☠️

    1. Lol! I don't think even that phone number would make me stand in a line wrapping around the building! I never used to be able to grow houseplants, either.

  10. Peace lilies are amazing plants. They seem to thrive on neglect. At least, unlike a lot of other plants, you know when they need water.

  12. Squirrels are amazing little creatures. I have only seen one squirrel here and only for a few days and then he up and went, never to return.
Oh what a nice trail by your home. Nice photos.
Wow you sure did bring in a lot of food. That is wonderful.

  13. Oh! I brand new store! It looks beautiful! I would not stand in line for much of anything. Maybe front row tickets to a concert...but even then. People. Ugh!

  14. That peace lily really is a drama queen! So glad it perked right back up.
The food drive sounds amazing -- what a huge effort and such a blessing for the community.
And I’m with you, no way I’d stand in line at 5am for coupons.

  15. What a wonderful amount of food your church collected for the community! That’s a lot of work, but I’m sure it was rewarding to see how many people would benefit.

  17. Great food drive! And nice scenery there this time of year.
We have random peanuts in our backyard all the time. Forgotten caches from the squirrels. I don't even know where they get the peanuts in the first place.

  19. Good that the food drive was big enough to cover the Salvation Army and the kitchens and pantries too, that must feel great. Hope the floater idea works out so you can ease out of the job instead of stopping all at once. And that peace lily bouncing back after one big drink is impressive.
