When we were on our cruise in January we were in a little store in St. Maarten and Rich wanted to buy some Pepsi. He picked up several bottles and when we got to the cashier we noticed there was a $25 minimum on credit card purchases. Since we were a little short of that we needed to purchase something else. I saw this little bracelet hanging there and thought it was cute with a little palm tree on it.
So we bought it and it brought our purchase to over the minimum. We paid and went on our merry way!
I wore it once or twice during the cruise and it wasn't until we got home that I really looked at it and noticed that the little charm wasn't exactly a palm tree.
But a marijuana leaf! Oh well, that's ok. I could take it off but I think it's cute so I'll still wear it occasionally!
This is my mom's sewing machine.
It's a Singer Featherweight 221 and she bought it in 1957. She used to sew clothes for us all the time and one time she sewed us matching pantsuits for Christmas! Plus many pairs of jeans were altered on this machine. Pant legs tightened to skintight and panels added to bell bottoms to make them bigger! I mean, it was the 70's!
I took it from my dad's house after my mom died. It had sat in a closet for 25 years and then in my closet for another 20 years. I took it out a few years ago, cleaned it and oiled it and it sews like a dream! But it and the case had a pretty musty smell.
Lately I've been trying to do some small sewing projects, and the musty smell was giving me a headache. So, I googled how to get rid of it. Several hours in the bright sunshine and a thorough wash with baking soda and water and the smell is mostly gone.
I won't show you my sewing projects because they are pretty bad!
Here's Maxwell and Levi practicing their kicking in their backyard pool!
*hahaha* You little Pot Head, you!!!! *giggle* What fun about your Mom's sewing machine. I'll bet it sews a lot better than any new ones bought today. The quality of everything back then was so much better. By the way, the art fair my kids went to (& my son-in-law exhibited/sold in) wasn't the Plymouth one...but that was a good guess. It was the Krasl Art Fair on the Bluff in St. Joseph, Michigan. :-) Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteI’m cracking up at you initially thinking that was a palm tree!!! Maybe stop wearing it when your grandsons get older 🤣🤣🤣
ReplyDeleteI thought that is what it was. Too funny. I’d wear it too!
ReplyDeleteMy mom had the same classic Singer machine only it was mounted on a stand and powered by a treadle. Is that the right word? She sewed many matching outfits, some for Easter church attending. Eventually our church asked for Singer donations to be sent to South America so that machine was donated. It might still be running today!
ReplyDeleteMy Mom had an almost identical machine. It had a foot pedal though. What a cute bracelet! The pot necklace. People are using it for pain relief now, and it seems to be almost mainstream.
ReplyDeleteA marijuana leaf 😂!
ReplyDeleteLOL, that's funny about the bracelet. It is a cute bracelet though.
ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome machine. I have an older sewing machine that my aunt bought me around 1982. That one works way better than the brother machine I bought this year. The only thing is it's in a cabinet and not easily moved.
Looks like Levi and Maxwell are having fun in the pool. Nice way to cool off.
The bracelet is so cute, pot leaf or not. I love your sewing machine. What a treasure to have that of your mom's. I haven't sewn in so many years I'm sure it would be a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteHA! A weed bracelet!
ReplyDeleteImpressive that you have your mom's sewing machine and got it working so well. My mom had one about that vintage. I have no idea where it is now.
A weed bracelet. It is nice! What a lovely sewing machine! And the last photo had me wanting to jump in the water! LOL! Very hot and humid, even here in Montreal, 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 Celsius). Lovely post, thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLOLOL. Thanks, I about spat out my coffee regarding your bracelet, lol. Thanks, needed that laugh. smiles
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing so hard at your Mary Jane bracelet. That's so funny.
ReplyDeleteI love the sewing machine. My MIL has one similar, but maybe older? She still uses it too!
I love how the boys are staying cool this summer.
