OK I lied. I have to do one more post before I start my February Photo a Day posts so I can tell you about what I did for Maxwells birthday.
Since his birthday is so close to Christmas (ugh! I sympathize with everyone with a January birthday!) and he got a bunch of gifts already I figured he didn't need any more stuff!
And when I asked him what he wanted for his birthday he couldn't think of a thing. Well, what 9-year-old boy doesn't want money? So that's what we decided to give him.
But I couldn't just stick some money in a card! That's no fun!
I went to the dollar store and bought a box of tissue and to the bank and withdrew $50 in one-dollar bills.
Then I taped the bills together end to end.
I rolled them all on a toilet paper roll.
I opened the side of the tissue box, took out the tissue and put the rolled-up dollar bills in there. I taped the first bill to the top of the box where you open it. Of course I forgot to take a picture of the inside of the box before I glued it shut but you get it, right? The idea was when he opens the top of the tissue box, he can just keep pulling a long line of bills out!
Then I wrapped it up and prayed it would work like I wanted it to!
It worked perfectly! He just kept pulling and pulling dollar bills out and everyone loved it!
This is a snap from a video I took.
I would say it was a success and now he can buy whatever he wants! I also was instructed by Levi to do the same thing for him for his birthday in September!
So Happy Birthday to our sweet 9-year-old!
I'll be back February 1st!

Awww, that was a great idea! Happy Birthday to him!
ReplyDeleteI just saw this idea on FB and wondered how it would work. It's brilliant! I can imagine he just loved it. I'm going to have to remember this one.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny because I searched for fun ways to give money and didn't see anything like that. I just thought of it myself.
DeleteLove it. Heck, my birthday is in March and I would love this!
ReplyDeleteHow cute! Great idea. You gave him the gift of shopping!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest son's birthday is in January, when everyone's all celebrated out.
Happy Birthday to him. What a great idea for a gift. I am sure he loved it. My brother's birthday is one week before Christmas, and I always felt bad for him. Our Mom did make it clear that she expected his gifts to be in birthday paper not Christmas paper. lol
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, this is an awesome idea! You are so creative!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea that was!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea. Happy birthday to Maxwell
ReplyDeleteFun! I will remember this idea for down the line.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a fun idea--very clever. My mom and Aunt always gave my girls a dollar bill for each year. Lindsay turned 30 in December, and I gave her $30 in ones in her card....she's still thrilled by the money!

ReplyDeleteJeanette, what a clever, wonderful idea!!! I know he loved it! You are a good, good grandma!
ReplyDeleteOh what fun.. Maxwell must have loved that!
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
ReplyDeleteThat's brilliant! I'd love to receive that too. I'm a December baby so yeah I seldom get gifts on either my birthday or Christmas.
