More Blah....

This is the craziest diet I'm on.

Shortly after I started it I noticed a extreme drop in my appetite, which is normal. Eating wheat causes you to want more wheat, and when you eliminate it the cravings just go away. Not that I don't get hungry, mind you. It's just that when I eat a meal I am satisfied with smaller portions, and don't have the urge to snack anymore.

However, it's a tenuous hold on that lack of appetite! Saturday Rich and I went to the Hollywood Casino in Toledo, Ohio. It was very crowded and we waited for almost a hour to eat at the buffet . I was starving so I had lots of salad and some chicken and ribs. Not a lot, but more than my usual meals have been. Then I decided to treat myself and had a very small piece of brownie and about a half of a cup of soft serve vanilla ice cream.

Well! Apparently the wheat that was in the brownie was enough to undo any loss of appetite and on Sunday and Monday I was wanting to eat a lot more than usual and craving sweets. It finally started to go away yesterday and now I am back to where I was before, but man, I guess I can't let go for even a minute.

I was hoping to resume a regular diet when I have lost all the weight I want to lose, but I'm not so sure that I will ever be able to!

Oh well, worth it in the end!

Not much else going on. The weather has been crazy lately! We actually got up into the 60's today, and had thunder storms last night!  The temp is supposed to plummet tonight though!

Just waiting on Spring!

Until the next time...

Blah...

This time of year is my least favorite thing about living in Michigan. The weather is cold. It looks blah outside with no green to speak of. Spring is still too far away.

The good things are there is no snow (right now, anyway) and it's staying light a little tiny bit longer every day. I am no longer driving home in the complete dark, but at twilight.

Driving at twilight is kind of scary, though,  because the deer are more active and I am always afraid one is going to dart in front of my car. I'm hearing more than the normal amount of stories about people hitting deer. They must be particularly active right now.

Diet is going good. I've lost 4 lbs total so far (in three weeks). I am not following the diet exactly like I am supposed to, but I have given up carbs long enough now for it to kill my appetite, so eating smaller portions has not been a problem.

Exercising is still a issue, especially because it's too cold and dark to walk outside when I get home from work. This morning I had every intention of getting up at 5:00 and jumping on my treadmill for 1/2 a hour. Unfortunately, I woke up at 2:00 and could not go back to sleep until almost 4:00 so when the alarm went off at 5, I just kept hitting snooze for another half hour.  Oh well, I need my sleep and there's always tomorrow morning!

Rich and I both had birthdays already this month. Went to dinner with Chris and Marissa one weekend and Shauna and Brad the next!

That's all the exciting news for now.

Until next time....

I Miss Bread!

Right after Christmas I decided to go on the Wheat Belly diet.. I didn't buy the book but there is a blog that pretty much tells me everything that's in the book.  The diet is kind of a cross between the Atkins diet and South Beach.  I officially started last Saturday, Dec. 29th.

Coming off of the food fest that is Christmas in our family, starting this diet was not as difficult as I thought it would be. I was so sick of eating goodies and being full at every meal that it was almost a pleasure to give everything up!

And give everything up I did. No more bread, pasta, crackers, English muffins ( which I ate almost every morning on the way to work), cereal,  cookies, cake, candy. Being Italian, pasta and bread have been the staple of my diet practically my whole life!

However, here are some things I've discovered.

Brown rice cakes are a good substitute for bread. You can put anything on them from lunch meat to hummus.

A salad with just olive oil and pepper is really good!

I eat oatmeal two or three mornings a week, which is a no no on this diet but I can't eat eggs every morning. Yuck!

Spaghetti squash makes a good substitute for pasta but it's not always available and a PITA to prepare. Broccoli slaw works pretty good, also,  and is a heck of a lot easier. With my own homemade sauce it's not too shabby!

My blood sugar has been awesome! Under 100 every morning! My doctor is going to be so proud of me!

It says in the blog that eating wheat just makes you want to eat more wheat and I tend to believe it. I have had no problem eating my portions and being satisfied.

Fruit tastes very sweet when you haven't really had anything else sweet!

That no matter how motivated I can get with my diet I still suck at exercising!

That my family, friends and especially my husband are very supportive!

So that's been my focus lately. I lost 3 pounds the first week so I think that's a good start! My goal is to lose 25 pounds by the time I have to see my doctor for a diabetic check in March.

This time I really think I'm going to do it!

Until the next time!

Phone Photo Dump

Time for another purge of the photos I collect on my phone!  The boys were playing with kinetic sand and it is a little oily.  Levi left hi...
