A Sleepover and a Birthday

Happy New Year you guys. Here's hoping 2021 brings an end to this pandemic and a little more unity in this country!

We did nothing for New Year's eve. Went to sleep before 11:00 with an alarm set at 11:55. Woke up, said Happy New Year to each other and promptly went back to sleep! Maybe next year we'll attend a huge party! (Probably not!)

Anyway, my son was not able to make it here from New Hampshire so we just had a small Christmas get together on the Monday following Christmas with Shauna and Brad and the kids.

This past Saturday we had the boys sleep over to give Shauna and Brad a night to themselves. We were completely exhausted the next day but we had fun!

We had fun playing with the selfie stick!

We pretty much let them run themselves ragged the whole night until they finally sat down on the couch and crashed at about 10 o'clock!

We pulled the mattress off of the bed in the spare room and put it on the floor in the family room. That way we didn't have to worry about them falling out of bed! I slept on the couch.

They both woke up at about 1:47 am thinking it was morning! I managed to talk them into laying back down on the mattress with me and thankfully they both eventually fell back asleep!

We had lots of fun but I took two naps on Sunday and fell asleep before 10 that night!

Anyway today is Rich's 65th birthday (hello Medicare) and as always I asked what he wanted for his birthday dinner. This is what he requested.

A frozen Stouffers Lasagna and a Sanders Bumpy Cake. Both of which are delicious! Don't get me wrong, I am Italian and make a pretty mean lasagna, but he loves this one and it is his birthday! Besides, who am I to pass up a chance to have such a easy dinner! Plus you know..... bumpy cake!

Had a appointment today at 11:00 to take my Equinox into the Chevy dealer because it's making a clunking noise at the rear drivers side tire. When I got there they told me that there were about 40 cars ahead of me and they couldn't guarantee they would be able to look at it today! When I told them I made an appointment two weeks ago their response was "yeah that's a problem with the computer because it's still first come first serve! " What??? Anyway, I didn't leave it and will just go back one morning first thing and leave it! So frustrating!

My allergies are awful right now! I am sneezing like crazy, my eyes are so itchy and I have a dry cough from sinus draining! It must be the damp snowy weather. It's wet but not cold enough to freeze everything. Mold is one of the things that bother me.

Well that's it for now As always until the next time stay safe and well my friends!

  1. New Year's Eve here.... About the same as usual... Chips and dip and "naughty" things like that.... Sparkling Apple Juice... Before we couldn't drink for health issues, it used to be Champagne... >,-))))

Those little ones can wear us out! -smile- But our youngest "Grand" is now 10. -smile-

Car appointments, which are almost a scam. Grrrrr... Just go early, seems the best way. Best of luck, the next time. Meanwhile don't drive the vehicle... Please...

  3. Happy Birthday to your husband. What an easy birthday dinner. My husband always liked the Stouffers meals especially the stuffed peppers.
That's pretty crazy about making an appointment and then getting there to find out it's first come first served

  5. I get allergies at this time of year as well. I think it is a mold allergy and when the snow melts...their is mold underneath though we don’t normally notice it. We did nothing for New year and were happy for it.

  6. Can you take any allergy meds?? My allergies act up in the fall...mold and certain grasses and weeds, fall leaf mold. I know what you mean about the kids. They make me feel young at heart, but exhausted physically! I bet they loved staying up so late, just like adults! That lasagna is SO good! But I have never heard of Bumpy Cake.

  7. Happy birthday to your hubby! Great for him to be on Medicare :) Happy New Year to you and yours! Grands have a way of keeping us young but at the same time keeping us tired after we spend time with them :) Glad you got a chance to do that though. I know your daughter and SIL appreciated it!

  8. Our grandkids have never slept over, but I look forward to that when they get older (ages 3 and 16 months now). What in the world is Bumpy cake? My fave Stouffers was their ham crepes but they stopped making them by 1990. Sad!

  9. Oh Jeanette.... I would have been madder than a wet hen about the car. An appt. and it's still first-come-first-served?! No way! I'm so sorry that happened to you. Heck, there's no arguing with the Birthday Boy... frozen lasagna and pre-made cake, it is! I'd jump at that opportunity too, if I were you! *haha* Happy Birthday to your hubby and many many more! ~Andrea xoxo

  10. Oh gosh, this brought back memories of my grandchildren spending the night. I had to laugh. I believe they could have stayed awake and up all night! Now that sounds like a perfect birthday dinner to me, except I've never heard of Bumpy cake. Happy New Year!

  12. I'm sorry your allergies are bothering you. That must be so annoying. I love the boys sleeping on the couch. So lovely, you are so blessed to have them, and close by too. Happy New Year.

  13. Happy Birthday Rich!!!! Bumpy Cake? Now, that is new to me, grin. That bumpy noise is a tire going, just saying. Hubby is taking my SUV in tomorrow to have the tires replaced with all season ones, that is where our stimulus check is going, sigh. It has to be done.

Have a beautiful day friend and thank you for sharing your photos.

  14. Your time with the boys sounds fun but apparently they have a LOT of energy and wear out their Grandparents. ;) I look forward to those days.
What a kick in the azz with the Chevy dealer!!
Happy birthday to your honey. I've never heard of a Bumpy Cake. Must be a Michigan thing? Wow, but what an easy guy he is with his birthday wants; I love that!
Sorry about your allergies. Does this happen every year? I've actually heard of people being tested positive with covid when they thought they just had allergies. I hope you feel better soon.

  15. Sorry about your allergy miseries. I don't suffer from allergies but many in my family do and many are or have been suffering of late! RIGHT you are that you never want to pass up an easy dinner! Maybe your man wanted you to have the night off, as much as he wanted the Stouffer's lasagna. Ain't a thing wrong with that! I commented on the Sanders bumpy cake on another post, and I plan to order one of those and have it shipped to us -- maybe for my man's birthday on the 25th ... we'll see, as he is a devotee of German Chocolate cake and I usually make one for him, with homemade icing. BUT anything we put in front of him, he will like! He's easygoing that way. The car troubles ... UGH! Hate the way that sometimes goes. Good luck! xoxo

  16. Sounds like you had a great time! My husband also loves Stouffers lasagna. My allergies have also been bad - all this moisture is tough.
