Yesterday, the 18 was our 44th wedding anniversary. We got married in 1977 at the ripe old age of 20 (me) and 21. Babies! That was way to young to get married but apparently it worked out ok!
Anyway, once in a while we travel somewhere to celebrate our anniversary like this trip we took for our 40th, but normally we just go out to a nice dinner.
Yesterday we went to Andiamo's, an upscale Italian restaurant. There is one close to our house but we decided to go to the one located in downtown Detroit in the Renaissance Center, or the RenCen as us locals call it. It's also where GM Headquarters is located. There's also shops, hotels and offices in the RenCen. It's located right on the Detroit River.
Per these pandemic days, we had to go through a area where we could get our temp taken and receive a little sticker to wear that said we were screened.
We got there a little early for our reservation with the intention of walking around the little shops in the center but they all were closed.
This is a picture from the atrium looking up at the GM Tower. The building on the left is the Marriott Hotel and I'm not sure what's on the right, probably more offices. The shops are located on either side by the palm trees. I couldn't believe they were all closed.
Anyway, it was pretty much a ghost town.
This is a view from the front of the Detroit River. The city across the river is Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The tall building on the left is Caesars Windsor Casino. We haven't been there in many years and now we couldn't go if we tried!
Canada has locked us out!
Since there was nothing else to do we went into the restaurant about a hour early and they were able to seat us since there was hardly anyone there!
This was the view from our table. It was cloudy out or these would be much prettier pictures!
I ordered Chicken Marsala and it was absolutely delicious!
Because I told them when I made the reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary they gave us a free desert!
Isn't this cute? We really enjoyed our anniversary dinner. The food and the service was top notch!
Next year for our 45th I'm hoping to be able to take a nice trip somewhere, preferably warm and sunny!
Until the next time stay safe and well my friends!
Fascinating part of the world. We once went to Detroit to see Les Miserables at the Fisher Theater, and then out to dinner and spend the night. My TG is from Toledo so we left the kids with his parents. It's sad that people just don't go back out and live their lives. Life is too short to be so afraid of politicians. Happy Anniversary! xoxo
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!!!
ReplyDeleteFor out 40th, way back in 1999, my husband gave me, 8 days in Paris. -smile- A lovely memory.
Made even better, by the fact that I Net-knew people in Paris, who met with us. Only woman met us the first day there, and gave us information. The young man, met with us 3 times, and knew I wanted to see "the real Paris." She he showed it to us. -smile-
It was lovely, but we have no interest in going back. Too much has changed in Europe, and I don't mean China/Covid.
Again, Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary! Great photos. Your dinner looks delicious and the dessert is so adorable. Sorry everything else was closed, but hope you had a great time anyway. :)
ReplyDeleteHappy 44th wedding anniversary to you both. I'm glad you got to go out for your special dinner. Yes, variants of the virus are rearing their ugly heads so cases are going back up again. Lots of places are restricting again and people are staying home regardless. That made the restaurant even safer for you two. Hurray! :) Our 45th anniversary is coming up next month. We never do anything special for our anniversaries & this year won't be any different. We were both 19yo when we got married... babies indeed!! ~Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary!! Looks like a great and really special meal! I'm sorry the shops were closed though, that would have been fun.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary. Too bad all the shops were closed but it sounds like you had a nice time any way. Your dinner looks delicious and how sweet of them to give you the free desert
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary. Ours was back in Jan on the 30th - 49 years for us.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! I hope you get to take a trip for your next anniversary! Would you believe we had dinner at the Renaissance Center for our 1st anniversary in 1987?? We took a trip to Detroit and went to Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum and stayed at aHoliday Inn in Dearborn. I’d have to look up the name of the restaurant, but it was fancy!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! Looks like you had a nice night. We will celebrate our 40th this year, and we were 20 and 22 when we got married. People got married younger back then I think, but I agree, we were babies.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! The meal looks good. All our restaurants are still closed and will be for months.
ReplyDeleteHappy 44th to you both. Yes, YOU were babies, but look how wonderful your marriage and life has turned out.
ReplyDeleteSo very sad that everything is closed. I can't believe how Michigan has pretty much closed down and so many people are out of work. It's very sad.
The dinner/dessert look amazing!
Wishing you a very happy belated Anniversary. Looks like a nice day...and places are still closed here too, sigh.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! It looks like you guys had a great dinner and a lovely dessert. I also enjoyed the photos of the river with Canada on the other side. It must feel strange to not be able to visit should you want to. I hope this pandemic will end soon. So tired of it all, even though my life would not be very differet.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy celebrations like this!! 45 next year? That's awesome. (I was 19 when I married Bud. 53 years ago this May). You two were a beautiful couple & your dinner looks divine. Too bad everything was closed tho. And Canada has shut USA out? Bummer.
ReplyDeleteHAPPY ANNIVERSARY WISHES!!!
