Display Case Part 1

One of the (many) things we have to do to prepare for our next painting job is to empty out this display case so we can move it out of the way. It sits between the dining area and the family room.

It's hard to get a good picture of it because it has a mirror in the back.

Many years ago I bought this mother and baby panda figurine from The Nature Preservation Gallery as sort of a way to make a donation.

I loved it so much that I decided to see if there was other mother and baby animal figurines I could find. I found them everywhere from The Franklin Mint to Home Interiors (remember them?) to eBay.

Next thing I knew I had 27 of them sitting all over the house!  When we moved to a bigger house I put them all on one of the fireplace mantles. I used to pack them up every year to put Christmas decorations on and finally I bought this display case and they have been in there ever since.

In order not to overload this post with pictures I'll show them all to you in groups.

Sorry, some of them are blurry. After I took each picture, I wrapped them in newspaper and put them in a tote to be stored away until everything is done.

After we paint, we intend on getting new floors throughout so it's going to be a while before I put it back together again.

This whole painting thing is a little overwhelming to me and I'm having a hard time getting started, but happy I got at least one thing done!

Next post I'll show you what is on the bottom shelf.

See you then and thanks for stopping by!

  1. You have a wonderful collection! My favorite are the elephants and the foxes. I enlarged your cabinet to try to get a preview of the bottom shelf. I used to have one of these, we used to call them curio cabinets. But I don't know what they are called now. Mine was skinnier though. This way, you don't have to dust them all!

  2. What a cute collection!
It's a lot of work to paint and do flooring. We are going to do some work in our bedroom, but first I need to do a thorough clean out!

  3. What a nice collection that is. I can understand the painting being overwhelming. My whole house needs painted but it's just too much of a job for me anymore.

  5. That's a very cute collection. We have a number of painting projects on the list this year and I'm not looking forward to it either.

  6. All the prep work ahead of time is the hardest part of painting. Good luck!

  7. The figurines are so sweet! I think the prep work for Painting is more work than the painting! Best of luck

  8. Ugh home improvement projects are like mountains you have to get over. But what a view once you have reached the summit! Keep moving forward and you will soon be able to relax! Your critter collection is cute. My mother, years ago, knowing how much I love elephants, spent a whole year going into antique stores wherever she happened to be (they traveled a lot), buying me elephants for my collection. It still amazes me that she took the time to do that, hahaha! xoxo
