Family and Tawas City

Earlier this week we took a quick overnight trip to Tawas City MI to visit with my brother Tom and sister in law Debbie.

It's always been their dream to be snowbirds and once they both retired last year they made their dream come true.

They spent from last October until the end of April in Myrtle Beach, SC and from May until October this year they are in Tawas City, MI which is a city on the East side of the state on Lake Huron.

They bought two 5th wheel campers, one for down south and one for here.

They have it perfectly set up for everything they need!

We stayed in a cute little motel about 2 miles from where their RV park is.

Our room was at the very end. It was on the Tawas river.

This was the view from the front of our room.

In the morning I took my usual daily walk.

Only this time with a beautiful view of Lake Huron and the sunrise. I wish I could look at this every day when I walk!

On Tuesday after Tom made us a delicious breakfast we walked all around downtown Tawas City Of course I didn't take a lot of pictures!

I did snap a pic of this though.

Hunters can drop off deer heads for testing for chronic wasting disease and bovine tuberculosis. My brother opened it but there were no deer heads inside.

We took a long walk down the pier and asked a kind stranger to take a picture of us.

It was so nice to visit with them! They will be down in a few weeks for a family event and I'm sure we'll get together again before they head back south in October.

In the meantime on August 1st we will be heading up to Lewiston MI again this year for our annual family vacation. This time hopefully Chris will be joining us!

Until the next time take care and thanks for stopping by!

  2. It sounds like your brother and sister-in-law are living the good life. I would love to go somewhere warm for the winter.
That was a nice view you had for your morning walk

  3. How fun all of that sounds! I never mentioned that my husband and I lived full-time in our motorhome to pay off divorce debt and to save money. Those were some of the best four years of my life. We stayed in an RV park in Silicon Valley, and on weekends and vacations, we would venture out to different places. I’m thinking maybe I should write about those experiences in a blog post. Sometimes, we talk about selling our home and buying a fifth wheel and truck to live in while traveling. However, I’m unsure how practical that would be when we get older.

Oh, how I envy them for doing what so many people dream about. It sounds like a wonderful visit, and those beautiful, peaceful views by the lake on your morning walk must surely make the day even better!

  4. They have some really nice and fancy camping stuff. This is a really good shot of you all. I think I would not be able to get up enough nerve to open the deer head door!!

  5. That looks like such a cute and cozy motel. I love the outside of the building and the view is perfection.
It's always nice to walk around a great area.
Glad you had fun with your family. They have a really nice set up there. I don't know if I could do 5th wheel living but it has always sounded tempting.

  12. What a fun time away for you two! The walks along L Heron must be wonderful! We also thought about the fulltime RV life but ended up nixing the idea, although we did buy a motorhome and travel for a few years.
    Have a super week!

  13. I know you're looking forward to your annual vacay with Shauna and the boys! What fun that will be! But this looks like it was a great time too. I like Tom and Debbie's idea of having two campers and spending half the year in each! It's not for me but I sort of envy those who can do it. And now I will have nightmares of opening that deer head cabinet and finding it full of deer heads! Aaaarrgghhh! Hahhahaa xoxo
