Canyon Falls and Copper Harbor

This is beautiful Canyon Falls which is south of L'Anse in the U.P. It was about a 15-minute walk from a little roadside park. Very beautiful and worth the trek! Here I am standing next to a pole that shows how much snow they get up here. The record was 390 inches back in 1978-79! Can you imagine?? And this is the quaint little town of Copper Harbor seen from up on a mountain. Very pretty! We are staying in Houghton tonight and tomorrow...Escanaba.

Munising and Pictured Rocks

This is a little sampling of the beautiful Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. More pictures to come later.

We used our metal detector this morning on a little roadside beach and found a quarter!! Woo Hoo!!

Tomorrow we head to the Keweenaw Peninsula, which is the northern most peninsula of Michigan. Never been there before; can't wait!!

This is beautiful country. Come visit sometime!

St. Ignace

We are in Michigan's Upper Peninsula now. Crossed the bridge at about 2:30 this afternoon. It sure is beautiful up here! Took this awesome picture of the Mackinaw Bridge!

We walked around town, ate dinner, went to a rinky-dink casino for a while and now we're in our hotel room ready to go to bed.

Tomorrow is Munising and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.

Can't wait!

Better

I have had some problems sleeping this week. On Monday night I woke up in the middle of the night for a few hours. On Tuesday I could not go to sleep until at least 2:00 am. Even taking an OTC sleep aid didn't help. Last night I took Xanax and slept like a baby. My body is tired I just needed to shut my mind off I guess.

Tonight Shauna and I are going to see Grease at the Cherry Hill Village Theater. It will be the first time I've been to that particular theater and a LONG time since I've been to any stage production. Well, I take that back..I was at my nephews high school production of Oklahoma about 6 years ago, which was surprisingly good. Anyway, Shauna always loved the movie Grease so I figured she would enjoy this.

Sunday we leave for our upper peninsula vacation. I have been researching places to go and things to do up there. Not that I am a fanatic about planning every minute of a vacation but it is the upper peninsula and therefore, you must find everything to see and do or boredom could set in really fast! I am so looking forward to getting away, though.

I got my hair cut last night. She really went to town on my hair and it is a little shorter than I like it to be. Why is it that you can go to a stylist and she/he gives you a great cut the first time, and then the next time...not so great? I got a lot of compliments at work this morning, though, so I guess it looks OK. It grows pretty fast so in a few weeks it should be at a perfect length.

Thats all for now. Two more days of work. Woo Hoo!!

Tired

It's Monday again. Last week of work before my vacation. If today is any indication, it's going to be a long one!

I am so tired right now because I woke up at 1:30 this morning and could not go back to sleep. I was thinking too much, I guess. After about 1/2 hour when I knew that I was not going to fall back asleep easily I took some OTC stuff called MidNite. It has melatonin. It definitely helped relax me but I still did not fall asleep until about 3:00. Anyway, makes for a tired day.

Later:
Tonight the humidity seemed to go away a little so I took a nice long walk. I was sweating buckets when I was done but it felt good. I was listening to my iPod and the song "Hungry Like A Wolf" is the perfect beat for walking at a brisk walk. I think I replayed it 2-3 times, just to keep the pace!

TGIF And One More Week

It's been a week since I posted. Funny, I always have the desire to write something but can't really come up with anything worthy to write about!

Shauna had her 27Th birthday last week. I can't believe my baby is 27 years old! Where does the time go? Oh never mind, I don't want to know!

I was extra busy at work this week because my coworker is on vacation. It wasn't crazy busy but enough that I did not stop for the whole day, and now that it's Friday I am pretty tired. Glad for the weekend, as usual.

We booked a trip to Las Vegas for September. Two of my brothers and their families are going. So is my dad and his girlfriend. Shauna is not going to go. Chris may go on strike at his job so they may drive out there and spend a few weeks seeing the sights. We should have a lot of fun, anyway. We plan on renting a car and driving to a couple of different outlying areas.

I ordered a new vanity top for my bathroom. The one there now is pretty old and one of the sinks is cracked. I didn't have any problem picking out the top, it was the faucets that I had problems with. I just couldn't decide. Of course, the one's I really liked were, like $200 each! Anyway, I finally found some I could live with for a price I could live with too. It should be here in about three weeks.

One more week of work and I am on vacation for two weeks! Woo hoo! The first week we are going to take a little trip up to the UP, WAY up, to Houghton and Copper Harbor. I have lived my whole life in this state and never been that far north. I am looking forward to it because it is beautiful country up there. Lots of waterfalls and beautiful shorelines!

For my second week off I plan on devoting to painting the master bath and the master bedroom, both of which badly need it! It's a big job but honestly, I think it will be easier than painting the small half bath downstairs. At least there will be room to move around a little! I will be posting before and after pictures.

All the rain we have had has made the flowers in the backyard grow like crazy. Look how the wave petunias just overflow the barrel!

They're even growing out of the bottom!

Estate Sales

I went to two awesome estate sales this weekend.

If I had been a collector of salt and pepper shakers, the first one I went to would have been heaven on earth! There must have been 2000 salt and pepper sets! I walked through the whole house and all I managed to buy was this:

It is a marble paper weight. I don't need it but it caught my eye. It was only $1 so I figured it was worth dusting occasionally!!

The second estate sale was in a old farm house. The owner was a teacher and was really into art and antiques. There was probably a lot of good bargains there. I don't really have a eye for antiques or a creative eye but for someone who does, it was a paradise. I ended up buying a salt and pepper mill (new in the package) and a gift-wrap organizer (also new in the package). I don't buy a lot of stuff but I love walking through estate sales.

The long weekend was a good one. The weather was absolutely beautiful.

Friday Don and Linda had a catfish fry. We tried to pop popcorn with cell phones but it didn't work. Good thing. The food was delicious and it was a fun time.

On Saturday, Marie and I walked as usual and this time her sister, Linda, joined us. It was nice to actually meet one of her sisters. We've been friends for many years and this is the first time I have met any of her siblings. Anyway, they look alike.

On Sunday we worked in the yard. I really don't like working outside on the yard, but it always looks nice when we are done. After dinner we went to walk in a local park by the Huron River.

It was a nice walk but we were pretty tired and we were ready to veg out after having a nice long weekend.

Yesterday (Monday) I hooked up our new Wii game and we bowled and golfed and played tennis and baseball. It was pretty fun and exercise too. Now if I can only find that Wii Fit.

Weekly Winners

Easiest and most delicious dessert I ever made thanks to The Pioneer Woman . She has some awesome recipies and this was a definite hit!

Cool and refreshing.

We tried to pop the popcorn using the cell phones. It didn't work. It was another internet scam. I was glad, yet strangly disappointed.
