Well, after deciding that I would not look for a job until after the holidays, I actually got a job at the last place I applied to!
My new job is at Anthology of Northville, a senior living facility about two miles from my house. It a beautiful place that has been there for 4 years.
I'll be a Concierge and work the 2-8 shift, 3-4 days a week with alternating weekends. When I first went to the interview, I really liked all the people I met and the person who would be my supervisor. The hours were great, it took me 6 minutes to drive there and the pay was really good. The only problem was, because it's a 365-day facility I would have to work some holidays. I told her that was probably a deal breaker as I don't want to work any holidays. I left there really torn and said I would think about it.
Later that day while talking it over with Rich he said, and I agreed that it would be a shame to give up an almost perfect job like that for a few days a year. There is always a way to work around a holiday, especially because we don't really have big family gatherings anymore.
I emailed the supervisor and within a few hours she emailed me back and offered me the job. So this past week has been spent filling out paperwork, getting a physical, a TB test, background check and fingerprinted!
I'm good to go now and will start on Monday! Plus, when I do have to work a holiday it's double time and that's a lot of money!
I'm looking forward to it because this is a whole new experience for me!
In other news, I bought the paint for our bedroom and will be spending the rest of this weekend painting! I want to be done by Monday and especially done by Thanksgiving!
See you the next time and thanks for stopping by!
That's so interesting and I hope you enjoy your new position. Will you be buzzing visitors in and out of the building? The place my mother is at, I've gotten to know the two women who buzz us in and out. They are so nice and I see how they talk to all the residents like they are friends.
ReplyDeleteSounds great! 😃
ReplyDeleteWonderful news!! And I agree with rich, nothing in life is totally perfect. But this seems as close to it as possible. Let us know what your duties will be.
ReplyDeleteOh that is good news. The best of luck to you. Hours sound great and you can't beat the commute!!
ReplyDeleteI've been inside of an Anthology before. They're really nice.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. Years ago I wouldn't have wanted to work the holidays either but now it's no big deal and it is extra money. A job close to home is always a plus too. I love living so close to work. My commute is about 2 minutes.
ReplyDeleteOh WOW! I watched the video!! Can't imagine how much it cost, a month!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Girlfriend! Great choice...
I'll be thinking of you tomorrow!
hugs
Donna
Congratulations! I would feel the same way about working holidays. Now with all the grandchildren grown and everybody doing their own thing...holidays aren't the big anymore. Hope you love working there.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Sounds like a great fit, I like Rich's advice.
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful. Congratulaitons.
ReplyDeleteI am SO happy for you. This sounds like such a great job; love the hours for you! Woot Woot!
ReplyDeleteJeanette this is truly wonderful news! It does sound like an ideal situation for you and you will EXCEL in this position I am sure, with your sweet smile and personality. I'm glad your Rich helped you to work through the problem and the best part (other than that it's a six-minute drive away) is that it's obvious that they really wanted you. Best, best, best of luck! xoxo
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! Years ago, I did that for two weeks two different summers to fill in for their full time employees vacations and I really enjoyed it. Some of the residents were hilarious. I'm sure you'll love it. Being close to home is such a huge perk also. I live a mile away from my job now and that makes a huge difference in the day.
